Q: What are your priorities in 2018?
A: Business events not only stimulate the visitor economy, but they also generate knowledge sharing, trade, investment and employment, and I look forward to helping create a more prosperous Brisbane through the work that the Convention Bureau does.
My key priorities in the short term will be to leverage the encouraging incentive prospects that have been created on the back of Dreamtime 2017, and the association’s prospects with the Lord Mayor’s Convention Trailblazer Grant.
Q: How will Brisbane look to attract more incentive groups?
A: Following up attendees of Dreamtime 2017 is critical. We need to ensure Brisbane stays at the top of mind for buyers, and remind them of all the unique offerings that are available in Brisbane.
We will also look to ensure continued product development remains key, as we continue to bolster what Brisbane has to offer with a raft of new and exciting experiences. In addition to these measures, we believe Brisbane is better experienced than explained, which is why we will continue to bring groups to Brisbane on famils and let them see it for themselves.
Q: What was the strategy behind the new Brisbane Signature experiences?
A: A cornerstone of the new Signature Brisbane experiences is giving visitors a chance to become a Brisbane local, even if it’s just for a few days. Localisation is an increasingly part of the visitor experience, and Brisbane is capitalising on this significant travel trend by highlighting some of the immersive options, enabling incentive groups to meet and interact with Brisbane locals.
The Brisbane Convention Bureau worked with members across the city to package up some of Brisbane’s best experiences for the incentive market, which includes 14 unique experiences over four days, showcasing both the stand-out attractions and hidden gems favoured by locals.
Rolling up your sleeves for an Italian pasta-making class by the Brisbane River with a glass of prosecco, or dining while you take in the stunning panoramic views of Brisbane City on our 60 metre high Wheel, are just some of the unique experiences that can be enjoyed in the new incentives itinerary.
This is just one step we are taking to increase awareness of Brisbane’s remarkable incentive products and experiences, which is a great mix of urban sophistication, cultural experiences, major events, world-class dining and natural beauty.
Q: What was the feedback from Dreamtime 2017?
A: The feedback from Dreamtime in Brisbane has been overwhelmingly positive. We are very happy with the sense of buyer satisfaction, as well as how Brisbane was presented as a business events destination, and we are very confident they will be more likely to consider Brisbane after visiting for Dreamtime.
On the back of Dreamtime, we are already working with attendees from the United Kingdom to secure two groups in 2019.
Q: How much do the many new developments that are due to come online this year onwards help your strategy?
A: Brisbane’s key developments will help shape Brisbane into the future, while offering world-class conference facilities and accommodation to fit every need.
Ensuring Brisbane has a series of world-class conference and accommodation options is a key part to Brisbane’s strategy to remain a prime business events destination, by providing a unique offering in this space.
Q: The tag line for Dreamtime was Brisbane is… What is Brisbane to you?
A: Brisbane is the complete package. Brisbane is a place where you can raise a family, purchase an affordable property and further your career in a wide range of key industries, coupled with the ease of a mid-sized city.
Brisbane is somewhere you can ultimately enjoy an outstanding lifestyle complete with family, friends, good food, world-class cultural and sport offerings and an endless supply of spectacular natural experiences.
Q: How will you work with the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre team?
A: The Brisbane Convention Bureau maintains a great relationship with the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, who we work in partnership on most international, and numerous national association conference opportunities for Brisbane.
Our next collaboration will be at IMEX Frankfurt, where we will co-exhibit on the Australia stand, and look to drive increased business event opportunities for Brisbane.
