Thanks to our friends at InterContinental Hotels Group, we recently travelled to the Gold Coast and experienced some great venues while we were there. Here’s our pick of the region’s best spots for a tipple or two.
1. Balthazar Wine and Dining
Located on the ground floor of Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise, this hidden gem is a must-do while you’re on the Gold Coast. More than 500 different local and international wines line the walls of the intimate dining venue and there’s a team of dedicated sommeliers on hand to guide you through them. Stay for dinner and choose from one of Balthazar’s 15 degustation menus for an unforgettable food and wine experience.
2. SkyPoint Observation Deck
Head up to level 77 of the Q1 Building in Surfers Paradise to enjoy a drink with one of the best backdrops the Gold Coast has to offer. On weekends SkyPoint even puts on live music, so you can relax, enjoy the entertainment and take in the coastal views.
3. Mamasan Kitchen Bar
Nestled within Broadbeach’s Oracle Boulevard, Mamasan serves up South East Asian fare and an impressive cocktail list. For something fresh go for the South East Side – Kaffir lime leaf-infused gin, cucumber, lime, sugar and fresh mint – or for something spicy opt for The Big Boss – chilli-infused tequila, agave, lime and pineapple.
4. Four Winds 360° Revolving Restaurant
If it’s views you’re after, pay a visit to Queensland’s only revolving restaurant, Four Winds 360° at the Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise. It’s open for lunch and dinner every day of the week, serving up a seafood buffet with an extensive wine and cocktail list to match. Or head up for high tea on Friday, Saturday or Sunday and watch the world go by with a sparkling wine in hand.
5. On a boat!
There’s no better way to soak up Queensland’s tropical weather than by cruising through the Gold Coast’s iconic waterways by boat. Crystal Blue Yacht Charters are one of many operators that can take you out on the water to enjoy the region in all its glory. Take a bottle of bubbles on deck and you’re set for a cruisy afternoon.
6. The Verandah Bar
For a change of pace, sneak away to InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort and enjoy the relaxed vibes and luxury treatment. The resort’s recently relocated Verandah Bar now boasts views across the gardens and lagoon below and is the perfect spot for lazy afternoon martinis, pre-dinner drinks or nightcaps by the fireplace. There are more than 50 local and global whiskies on offer, as well as a wide range of local craft beers, wines of the region and cocktails inspired by the Resort’s tropical surrounds.
