Abu Dhabi attracts over four million visitors in 2016
The Global Cities Index Report revealed a compound annual growth rate of 19.81 per cent in overnight visitors to the UAE capital between 2009 and 2016, placing Abu Dhabi in third place alongside major upcoming destinations such as Osaka, Japan and Chengdu in China.
In the first 11 months of 2016, Abu Dhabi attracted more than four million guests to its portfolio of 168 hotel and hotel apartments.
TCA Abu Dhabi director general Saif Saeed Ghobash said the results further position the city as a “leading international destination”.
“We remain resolute in fostering the continued evolution of Abu Dhabi into a distinctive global destination, leveraging diverse tourism and cultural assets, as well as extensive tourism infrastructure.”
The city has also reported growth in the business events sector with Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau securing agreements to host 14 conferences, which are expected to attract more than 35,000 delegates to the emirate in upcoming years.
