Turnbull said he received confirmation from the White House that Australian passport holders will be able to travel to and from the US as normal, regardless of where they were born or whether they are dual-citizens of another country.

Trump’s executive order sees a 90-day ban on immigration to the US from seven nations: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

However there is still confusion surrounding the issue as to whether the exemption is only on a case by case basis after 15-year-old Iranian-Australian citizen Pouya Ghadirian was told he could not travel to the US on Monday.

Turnbull said Ghadirian’s case could be reconsidered as a result of Australia’s exemption.
