At the recent Queensland Tourism Awards, Mackay’s Sarina Sugar Shed won gold awards in both the Tourism Wineries, Distilleries and Breweries, and Excellence in Food Tourism categories, as well as a bronze award in the Tourist Attraction category.

Ibis Mackay was also successful, taking home a gold award in the Standard Accommodation category; an impressive win for one of the region’s newest properties.

This year has seen a number of significant events visit Mackay, including the Australian Society of Sugar Cane Technologists’ national conference, the 2016 Queensland Mining & Engineering Exhibition & Conference and the North Queensland Law Association Conference, all of which were repeat events for the region.

The recent DestinationQ Forum not only showcased Mackay, but the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC) and surrounding regions. The MECC has access to over 200 casual support staff via the “Friends of the MECC” organisation, which it utilised for the DestinationQ event.
