Going the extra mile

perfectIt was in the Gold Coast recently for the their annual This Is Gold Coast Business Exchange, and saw a side to this usually picture perfect destination most don’t get to see. Yes, it was during that wild weekend when most of the East Coast got the sort of lashing you only see once in a life time. But despite the crazy weather,
and isn’t that every planners worst nightmare, the Gold Coast still managed to turn on the charm.

Last minute changes to the itinerary saw umbrellas and raincoats rationed out to keep us toasty, mini-buses replaced the light rail for a fast track hotel inspection, and a venue switch from McLarens Landing to Gold Coast Events Centre due to the stormy seas were handled with ease, but it was breakfast at the new beachside venue Kurrawa Terrace that really showed the destination’s true colours.

While we, the VIPs, were kept safe and dry in the marquee, the brave souls in the food trucks that were catering for the morning pushed through the cyclonic wind and tsunami-like waves battering the beach to deliver freshly made bacon and egg cronuts. Yes they were soaked to the skin for their efforts but boy those cronuts were good.
It’s those small details, when someone goes above and beyond to deliver great service that make events memorable. And there were plenty of those on show on the Gold Coast that weekend.
