International Antarctic meetings to bolster Tasmania’s reputation as research hub
Hobart will host the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) Delegates’ Meeting and Open Science Conference 2020, and the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs (COMNAP) AGM 2020, further cementing the state’s role as a key Antarctic gateway.
“The meetings alone will generate more than $6.4 million to the Tasmanian economy, with the meetings running over two weeks and bringing more than 850 delegates from over 40 countries to the state,” said Stuart Nettlefold, Business Events Tasmania CEO.
“But the positive impacts go way beyond the economic benefits. They provide Tasmania with a wonderful opportunity to showcase what the state has to offer on the international stage.
“Part of our strategy for targeting both national and international events is to utilise our local industry experts and their contacts, through our Tasmanian Ambassador Program.
“The bid to secure the Antarctic meetings was a joint effort between Australian Antarctic Division, Tasmanian State Government and Business Events Tasmania.”
