MACq 01 opens its doors in Hobart
The new $45 million waterfront development tells the stories of Tasmania’s past and present, with each of the 114 rooms focussing on a Tasmanian character such as Fanny Cochrane-Smith, Mannalargenna, Truganini, Amy Sherwin, Rodney Croome, Thomas Jennings, Robert Knopwood, and Ricky Ponting.
The hotel also has a team of full-time storytellers on hand to guide guests and visitors through the stories and artefacts within the property and throughout the waterfront precinct.
Speaking to CIM in the lead up to the opening, MACq 01 general manager Jake Smith said the hotel will attract guests looking for an experience-based stay.
“We’re very much all about celebrating the Tasmanian character, so the design of the hotel has been geared to celebrating Tasmania, our culture and our people, to allow our guests to have a really true understanding about who we are,” he said.
“I think it’s a real privilege and responsibility for us to tell these stories, and I’m really excited to be able to do so.”
