Crown lays down the law on Opera House views for hotel
In what could only be described as characteristically Sydney, where water views are the most important signifier of social status, the ailing casino and hotel company is trying to block expansions proposed by the state government that could obscure views to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, which are a vital selling point for its $800 a night hotel rooms.
Although James Packer stood down from board in March, he remains a major stakeholder of the company which has just posted a 70 per cent fall in profits for the last financial year.
The legal action could delay the construction of Barangaroo Central and its Metro station which are due for completion in 2024. The resort is due to be finished in 2021.
