Kate Jones appointed Minister for the Commonwealth Games
Jones served as Commonwealth Games Minister in 2015 and will return to the role in 2018 while retaining her current ministerial responsibilities.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk welcomed the news.
“Kate is the best Education Minister in Australia. We are delivering record funding for education, 875 additional teachers and securing better results in our classrooms,” she said.
“In tourism, Kate has worked hard with the sector to renew confidence and growth in visitor numbers, particularly from overseas, is double-digit growth. We have secured an additional 500,000 extra seats on international flights.
“With Kate’s experience in the portfolio, we will ensure these Commonwealth Games are the best ever and once again showcase Queensland to the world.”
