Kuching in Sarawak marks a milestone for the 15th International Peat Congress
The congress, which was launched in 1954 and is held every four years, was brought to Sarawak through the efforts of Dr Lulie Melling, director of the Tropical Peat Research Laboratory in Kuching and Congress General of the 15th IPC.
“The congress was hailed by the attendees as one of the best in the history of the IPC,” she said. “The foreign delegates commended the warm hospitality they received. In fact, there was nothing about the event that was not praiseworthy; they acknowledged the hard work and the attention to detail that was evident throughout.”
Melling said there were several ingredients in their “recipe” for a winning bid.
“Extensive networking, home-grown science, beefy credibility and values, and generous helpings of mettle and gumption!”
