Crown Resorts has received planning approval to develop the Queensbridge hotel tower, a new 90-storey tower in Melbourne’s Southbank precinct.

Queensbridge hotel development to boost Victoria’s tourism sector

Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews announced the approval this morning and said the development of One Queensbridge will be a boost of confidence for the state’s tourism sector.

“This is a bold transformation of Melbourne’s skyline that will build on our state’s reputation as the nation’s leader for tourism,” said Andrews.

The 6-star hotel will become Australia’s tallest tower and will feature 388 hotel rooms, visitor attractions and 708 residential apartments.

Crown Resorts executive vice president of strategy and development Todd Nisbet welcomed the news.

“We truly believe One Queensbridge will add to the liveability and vibrancy of city life in Southbank and become a signature landmarks in the Melbourne skyline with international appeal,” he said.

Crown and venture partner Schiavello Group will also invest $100 million in a community benefits package, which includes a $25 million upgrade to Queensbridge Square, a further $15 million for the Sandbridge Rail Bridge and landscaping improvements.
