Melbourne CBD development to include 500-room Shangri-La hotel

Shangri-La and Malaysian property developer S P Setia Berhad Group this week confirmed the development of the 5-star Shangri-La Hotel, Melbourne, which is expected to be completed in 2022.

Located at 308 Exhibition Street, the two-tower hotel will feature an estimated 500 guests rooms with three levels of amenities, including a sky lobby, restaurants and a ballroom, and the second tower will include some 300 luxury residential apartments. A sky bridge will connect the two towers and retail space will occupy the lower levels of the development.

S P Setia chairman Tan Sri Wan Zahid said the appointment of Shangri-La supported the project’s vision to deliver an iconic development that increases capacity and sets a new benchmark for 5-star luxury in Melbourne.

“S P Setia is honoured to appoint Shangri-La, an iconic global brand that represents the highest standards of quality, as the hotel operator to this development,” he said.

“Through the design and construction phases and for many decades to come as a luxury residence, retail and hotel precinct, the economic benefits of this project will be significant for Melbourne.”

Shangri-La Asia CEO Lim Beng Chee said the development will be an “architectural masterpiece and an iconic part of Melbourne’s skyline”.

“We look forward to bringing Shangri-La’s hallmark ‘hospitality from the heart’ to Melbourne, Australia’s event capital,” he said.
