In 2016, the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) saw great progress with a focus was on bringing the country’s MICE industry up to international standards through the Thailand Mice Venue Standard (TMVS) project.

The TMVS project involves a series of measures that, together, demonstrate to the rest of the world that Thailand is ready and able to host international events of the highest caliber. This in turn strengthens Thailand’s own MICE industry, encourages long-term growth and increases the country’s competitive edge.

Sustainability is a key aspect of the TMVS project and a major topic on the global MICE stage. Thailand’s MICE industry has also seen a significant shift towards sustainability in recent years. Reducing waste, lessening energy consumption, community outreach and utilising recycled materials are just some ways that hotels and meeting venues in Thailand have become more sustainable in 2016.

This past year also saw the launch of several important initiatives by MICE venues and operators to improve environmental and social conditions in local communities. Regional forums raised the profile of sustainability in Thailand and new programs encouraging carbon neutral events and preventing food waste were put into place.

As these programs take effect, TCEB’s commitment to sustainability becomes even more crucial for the Thai MICE industry. TCEB is taking sustainability to new levels in 2017 by implementing sustainable venue standards as part of the TMVS project. Through this project, Thailand’s hotels, convention centers, and private venues are being certified for sustainability.

There are already 200 certified TMVS venues across Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket. Take a look at the full list of certified venues leading the way on standardization and sustainability in Thailand.

As Thailand’s MICE industry moves swiftly towards standardisation, regional and global event organisers are winners as well. Thanks to TCEB’s “Meet Sustainable Way” campaign, meetings and incentives groups from all over the world have the opportunity to convene sustainably in Thailand, contribute to a more sustainable, conscious industry and make the world a better place overall.

With “Meet Sustainable Way” TCEB’s commitment to sustainability is put into practice. Are you wondering if your meeting qualifies? If you have at least 200 delegates per group, have a CSR activity or hold an event at a TMVS certified venue with a minimum stay of three nights, then the answer is yes!
